hi All

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water it comes and bites you!!

When i cought up with you all last week I was doing quite well proud of myself I had started Humira with no problems and had started to feel really well, the fatigue was nearly gone only had 1 doze a day and the pain was reducing, I had reduced the pred down from 30mg aday in November to 3.5mg last week.
Then on Monday I woke up and could hardly move and I have now gained some new joints joining in the fun. My ankles and toes my right thumb and my left shoulder hurts so much I can't bear it.

I had an appointment with my Rheumy and research nurse for the Humira which was really lucky and when I met them they realised before I said anything that Things were not right.

It seems that the Humira is running out before the next injection is due. I have the injection fortnightly and MTX 15mg weekly. this I'm told is quite common??? The problem is because I'm on a trial I can;t have my doses changed of Humira and MTX until I have been on them for 6 months.
So they advised I up the pred again to 15mg a day and see how I go. increase the fentanyl patches and take regular paracetamol and diclofenic.
has anyone else had this with Humira is this weight related if you are 8 stone and 5 foot will it go the 2 weeks or if you are 15 stone and 5 foot 9 it runs out?

best wishes

Tricia

Hi Tricia,

I have been on humira for almost 12 months now.
It was fine at first but for the last 2 months I have been seeing a pattern where I get 9 days from the humira and then the morning stiffness comes back with a vengeance.
Not just mornings either, I wake up in the night and can hardly move.
Also, after the 9 days, the tiredness returns and is as bad as it was before I started on humira.
I'm not sure if anything can be done about it because I haven't heard of anyone taking a different dose to one injection every two weeks.
Not sure about it being weight related , I am 5 foot 3 and almost 10 stone, so the dose should be adequate.

Hi Tricia,

I was on Humira for about 18 months and had no trouble for the first 12 or so months. Can't remember exactly as it was a while back. I do remember though, that for a good few months at the end, I wasn't making it to the next jab day either. I was "running out" by around day ten and feeling really bad for about five days until the next jab took effect. I was only really having one OK week in the middle of the fortnight.

I was eventually taken off Humira and I went on to Infliximab instead. I did really well on that (until I developed an allergy to it RollEyes ). My rheummy did explain that a particular drug can start to lose it's effectiveness with time and that may be what is happening. Although, I think it may take a few months to establish itself properly and maybe, if you haven't had it for six months yet, it will still do so.

Make sure you keep letting your rheummy team know how things are going, especially if there doesn't seem to be any improvement.

Hope you start to see some results soon!

Hi Tricia,

I started Humira at the end of January and just when I thought it was beginning to kick-in had to stop; looks like I've developed an allergy to it and have to wait and see if I can take it again. However, do agree with what others have said, I also experienced an increase in RA symptoms a couple of days before the next jab was due.

love,

Barbara

hi Ladies,

I am finding this very interresting as on the 15th April I have a meeting with the Nurse to teach me about self injecting, I am not sure if i will be put on Humira or Infliximab as they havent specified yet..... I feel as though its time for bed all the time, and cant wait to feel some energy again, never mind stopping the flares etc, I thought that getting on to this treatment would sort me outConfused
